IRAQ - BAGHDAD

Origins and Medical Foundations

I was born and raised in Baghdad, Iraq, where my passion for medicine took root. After graduating with a 99.5% score from Al-Hariry High School, I was admitted to the University of Baghdad College of Medicine, one of the country’s most respected institutions.

In 2002, I earned my MBChB degree, graduating 15th out of 372 students.

Following graduation, I completed intensive clinical training as a house officer in pediatrics, cardiology, surgery, internal medicine, and obstetrics/gynecology in several leading Baghdad hospitals. In 2003, I served with the Italian Red Cross Field Hospital, providing care during a time of great humanitarian need. That experience was defining — it reinforced my commitment to serve Families and Children under the most challenging circumstances, and inspired my long-term focus on rare and complex diseases.

ITALY - GENOVA

Academic and Clinical Foundations in Medical Genetics

In 2003, I moved to Italy with the great support of Gaslini Foundation and Prof. Giuseppe Martucciello and began my journey in clinical genetics at the University of Genoa. I completed a four-year Specialization in Medical Genetics at the Istituto Giannina Gaslini. This Institute represents a national and international referral point for rare diseases. Moreover, part of the training was in San Martino General Hospital. In these years, I was trained under the mentorship of Prof. Roberto Ravazzolo. This was a period of intense clinical and academic growth, during which I went across all major domains of medical genetics, including dysmorphology, cardiology, legal medicine, prenatal diagnosis, neuromuscular, metabolic diseases, oncogenetics, and skeletal dysplasias. I completed the requested training in Laboratory tools both molecular (mentor Prof. Renata Bocciardi) and cytogenetic.

My specialization thesis focused on holoprosencephaly, with a genetic screening of SHH, SIX3, ZIC2, and TGIF. I then pursued a PhD in Clinical Genetics and Immunology of Childhood and Adolescence with the main project on the Phenotypic Characterization of Poland Syndrome.

Genoa also offered my first experience in European collaborative research under great mentorship and supervision of Prof. Giacomo Pongiglione, including participation in the Health-e-Child project, which integrated multi-dimensional data on congenital heart diseases. These years gave me the solid clinical-scientific framework that continues to shape my approach today.

ITALY - ROMA

Clinical, Academic and Scientific Growth

In 2009, I joined the Bambino Gesù Children’s Hospital and Research Institute in Rome, Italy’s most prominent pediatric hospital (Mentor Prof. Giacomo Pongiglione and Prof. Massimiliano Raponi ). There, I worked as a Consultant in Clinical Genetics and Genomics.  From 2009 to 2015, I performed inpatient clinical duties in the Pediatric Cardiology Department, managing critically ill patients with congenital heart disease, heart failure, genetic syndromes, and post-transplant conditions.

In 2016, I continued with the title of Consultant in Clinical Genetics and Genomics with the foundation of the Cardio-Genetic Center at Bambino Gesù, a multidisciplinary clinic dedicated to inherited cardiac diseases, including congenital heart diseases, cardiomyopathies, arrhythmias, and aortopathies. I led this center until 2025, offering comprehensive management services and family-based care models.

My time in Rome also included active participation in national and European research consortia, mentorship of junior colleagues, and authorship of over 100 scientific publications. I earned the National Scientific Qualification as Associate Professor in Italy, and currently serve as Vice-Chair of the Genetics Working Group of the Association of European Pediatric Cardiology (AEPC). My work in Rome represents a period of consolidation, leadership, and international recognition.

UAE - DUBAI

Expanding Genomic Medicine in the Middle East

In 2025, I relocated to Dubai, United Arab Emirates, to take on a new challenge as Head of Department for Clinical Molecular Genetics and Precision Medicine at Mediclinic Middle East MCME Hospital Here, I lead the initiation and development of precision medicine programs and advanced genomic services across a major private healthcare network.

My work in Dubai represents a strategic step in building accessible, integrated, and innovative genetics services in a fast-growing medical ecosystem. I focus on incorporating next-generation diagnostics into routine care, empowering local teams, and shaping long-term strategies for personalized medicine across the region.

This role continues my mission: to bring genomic knowledge, clinical excellence, and compassionate care to diverse populations — and to bridge science and humanity in every clinical encounter.
